4Nice Laptop, but be aware of exactly what you are buying... description is wrong and misleading..
By Mikish
Let me start by saying that this is a nice computer, but people should know that the product description is both wrong and misleading.

The description clearly states that this laptop has 16GB DDR4 memory, but it doesn't... it has 16GB DDR3 memory; interestingly, the Intel Core i7-6500U does not even support DDR4 memory, so their description is an impossibility.

Also, while the description states this to be a "2017 Newest Dell Inspiron 17.3 Inch Full HD (1920 x 1080) Touchscreen Signature Edition Laptop, Intel Core i7-6500U 2.5 GHz, 16GB DDR4, 1TB HDD, DVD +/-RW, 802.11AC, Bluetooth, HDMI, Win 10 - Silver", that is inaccurate and misleading; it is not the *Newest* release in the Dell 5000 series model line, nor does it have the DDR4 memory as stated. It is just the newest release of this model 'with the touchscreen option'. Stating "2017 Newest" in the description when it was really released in 2016 is an unwarranted sales gimmick in my opinion... especially when Amazon actually does have a later release of this Dell Series 5000 with the next generation processor with DDR4 memory.

As the description correctly states, the laptop's processor is an "Intel Core i7-6500U" which is a 6th generation i7, not the 7th generation i7-7200u processor (which is newer and DOES support the DDR4 memory wrongly stated to be in this computer). Yes, the actual *Newest* Dell laptop with the i7-7200u processor and DDR4 memory can be found for sale on Amazon too, though WITHOUT the Touchscreen option.. which is why I think the description regarding being the "Newest" is misleading... buyers are lead to believe this is a laptop more advanced than it really is in the Dell 5000 Series lineup. It is really just the newest of this model *with the touchscreen option* being dumped on the market prior to Dell releasing the Dell 5000 Series with an Intel i7 7th generation 7200u processor with DDR4 AND a touchscreen... thus the great price on this model with the older processor and memory.

With that clarified... yes, this really is a nice computer and yes, I was aware the description was wrong when I purchased it and am happy with my purchase. The difference in performance between the i7-6500u processor with DDR3 memory and the i7-7200u processor with DDR4 memory is not that great, plus the Touchscreen is a nice bonus. The SELLER(s) should really adjust their description of this product though.

Other noteworthy observations:
- The Ethernet Network port is just 100 Mbps, not a 1 Gig port which I would have preferred.
- It is noticeably heavy (because of the touchscreen), but that is to be expected.
- The laptop came with NO bloatware, which really pleased me.
- The surface has a rubbery feeling texture, which is a nice feel, but not easy to keep clean.
- I LOVE the back-lit keyboard, which for me is a bigger selling feature than the touchscreen, though that is handy too and works great.
- The screen is Glossy, not Matted... much like most tablet screens (I saw someone ask about that).
- The display is bright, crisp, and clear though even with adjustment, the color is a little flat, but is totally adequate for a laptop of this resolution.
- There is only one drive bay, so that means backups need to be set up to use a network drive or an external USB drive.
- You SHOULD/MUST update most all of the drivers, which will also update the laptop's BIOS. Bluetooth.

Updating, configuring, and installing the software I use took about a day and a half, but it is now set up just like the laptop it is replacing. I have had ZERO problems and would recommend this laptop at this price (or lower) to others... just be aware of what you are buying!

Note: Wanted to say that I upgraded the stock WiFi card with this one and am very satisfied; faster more reliable WiFi (provided you have a WiFi network capable of higher speeds).

4Heavy sucker....but worth it! One flaw...
By 2yorkiemama
Fabulous! However; this one is heavy, so I would not consider it for travel or any other 'portable' use.

We have gone completely wireless in our house. We have no more phone landline and no more desktop computer. Since this is going to be our main computer in our home, we wanted the biggest screen since no monitor on a desk. We had the Dell 23 inch monitor with our desktop which we gave to my parents so we were used to a larger screen size. This did not disappoint. Though smaller, it is still plenty sufficient. We love the clarity and depth of color. It is super easy to set and very user friendly. We did purchase a Dell wireless mouse because hubby is not a fan of the mouse pad nor using the touchscreen (both of which I LOVE!). The mouse paired seemlessly with it.

Neither of us are any type of 'gamer' on the computer. We use it for basic things; email, online shopping, surfing the internet, accessing our work sites to accomplish tasks for our jobs. Nothing technical or involved. We love the keyboard! It is not slick and plastic-like. It is almost a soft 'rubbery' kind of feel. Typing is a breeze. It is very comfortable and the keys are solid. I was super happy to find there is a number/numeric pad also, so you don't have to rely solely on the numbers across the top of the letters. If you use numbers often, this is a bonus.

The one and only downside is the battery life. I do not use it for more than emails, some web surfing and of course shopping on Amazon. I get it to a full charge before unplugging and cannot get more than 4 or 5 hours max out of the battery. The only consolidation is that it is so heavy, I won't be toting it around much so I keep it plugged in. Oh well...

We'd most definitely recommend this one.
