I bought this USB hub because of all the reviews it had and Anker is pretty big on Amazon. I bought this for work, in two days, this f***ing thing melted. Thank god it didn't damage my work computer. There's no quality control, this hub probably wasn't grounded properly. I plugged in one peripheral. I will never buy another Anker product again. Gonna go back to the better known brands and pay the extra money.
EDIT: They did contact me immediately and really looked into the problem. They requested the bad hub for troubleshooting and quality control. They sent me a new one. I've had the new one for a few months and no problems. The customer service at Anker was very helpful.

Nice portable USB 3.0 Hub with a small caveat
By Dez S
I'm using a Windows 8.1 64-bit desktop with this Anker USB 3.0 hub. After attaching the USB 3.0 hub to an available USB 3.0 port, Windows quickly loaded the drivers and the device was ready within seconds. I attached my Toshiba 1TB USB 3.0 portable hard drive and copied a large single file into attached drive and than I tried it staight to the USB 3.0 port on my computer. Both had the same results at 69MB/sec with the Anker hub & 66MB/sec without hub.
With CrystalMark 4.0 (a disk benchmark software), I tested again with and without the hub attached to the same drive. Results were the same with both the hub being used or with the external hard drive attached on it's own to the same computer USB 3.0 port: 111MB/sec sequential read speed at 108MB/sec write speed.
I am aware this hub is really for a laptop application, since the attached cable is about 7 inches long (my only caveat), but it will work on a desktop with a USB 3.0 cable extender to attach to the rear of your desktop case. I'd recommend it more so for laptop users and it's a good compact value to extend that one port to 4 ports :)
